Meadow House, Essex

This striking contemporary house featured dressed walling supplied by Haysom Purbeck Stone. Designed by Ström Architects, the scheme emphasised the relationship between the house and its setting. A series of walls were inserted to respond to the site’s topography. These walls defined key spaces: the entrance, a courtyard, living and sleeping zones oriented to light, and a kitchen garden with an ancillary building for a study and gym. Arranged in a pin-wheel layout, the walls framed views and organised the house’s flow. The Purbeck stone walls extended into the garden, unifying the architecture with the surrounding landscape.
